RUSH

Rush é uma banda canadense de rock progressivo formada originalmente em agosto de 1968, na cidade de Toronto, Ontário, composta atualmente pelo baixista, teclista e vocalista Geddy Lee, guitarrista Alex Lifeson, e o baterista e letrista Neil Peart. O grupo passou por uma série de diferentes formações entre 1968 e 1974, alcançando a formação definitiva quando Neil Peart tinha substituído o baterista original John Rutsey em julho de 1974, duas semanas antes da primeira turnê nos E.U.A..

Desde o lançamento do álbum de estreia em março de 1974, Rush tornou-se conhecido pelas halilidades instrumentais de seus membros, composições complexas, e letras elétricos que abordam pasadamente a ficção-científica, fantasia, e libertarianismo, dirigindo-se assuntos humanitários, sociais, emocionais, e ambientais.

Musicalmente, o estilo evoluiu ao longo dos anos, começando no blues inspirado no heavy metal em seus primeiros álbuns e, em seguida, englobando hard rock e o rock progressivo, um período dominado pelos sintetizadores e, mais recentemente, o rock moderno. Eles têm influenciado vários artistas musicais, incluindo Metallica, The Smashing Pumpkins e Primus,^[3] bem como as bandas de metal progressivo como Dream Theater e Symphony X.

A banda ganhou alguns Juno Awards, e foi introduzido ao Canadian Music Hall of Fame em 1994. Ao longo de sua carreira, os membros foram reconhecidos como sendo alguns dos mais eficientes em seus respectivos instrumentos, com cada membro ganhando vários prêmios em revistas. Como um grupo, Rush possui vinte e quatro certificações de ouro e catorze de platina (3 multi-platina) registrados. Segundo a RIAA, o Rush é o quarto colocado nas estatísticas de vendas de álbuns consecutivos de ouro ou platina por uma banda de rock, atrás de The Beatles, The Rolling Stones e Aerosmith. O grupo também se classifica na 78° de números de vendas nos E.U.A., com 25 milhões de unidades. Embora o número total de vendas não são calculadas por uma única entidade, a partir de 2004 várias fontes da indústria mundial estimaram as vendas em mais de 40 milhões de unidades.

A banda terminou recentemente a turnê intercontinental que promoveu o seu último álbum, Snakes & Arrows. A segunda etapa começou em San Juan, Porto Rico no dia 11 de abril, e terminou em 24 de julho de 2008 em Noblesville, Indiana^[6]. Atualmente, a banda está em fase de produção de novo material para o lançamento do seu próximo álbum de estúdio Clockwork Angels e estará iniciando a turnê Time Machine Tour no verão de 2010.
