U2 é uma banda de rock formada em Dublin, Irlanda no ano de 1976. O grupo é composto por Bono (vocalista e guitarrista), The Edge (guitarrista, pianista e backing vocal); Adam Clayton (baixista); Larry Mullen Jr. (baterista e percussionista).
O U2, com mais de trinta anos de estrada, é uma das mais populares bandas de rock do mundo desde a década de 80. Os seus concertos são únicos e um verdadeiro festival de efeitos especiais, além de ser uma das bandas que mais arrecadam anualmente. As vendas já atingem em torno de 150 milhões de discos no mundo inteiro[1], já ganharam vinte e dois prêmios Grammy Awards, estão entre as bandas que mais aparecem no ranking da Lista dos 200 álbuns definitivos no Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, estreando em 5º lugar, o álbum The Joshua Tree, em 1987; 45º lugar, o álbum Achtung Baby, em 1991; e 197º lugar, All That You Can't Leave Behind, em 2000. Em 2003, foi feita a lista das 500 melhores canções de todos os tempos da Revista Rolling Stone, obtendo 8 canções no total, estando atrás de outros ícones como The Rolling Stones com 14 canções e The Beatles, com 23 canções.
Além da empreitada musical, eles são também conhecidos pela sua participação ativa em causas políticas e humanitárias, em especial o líder da banda, Bono. Ele tem participado ativamente em várias campanhas e apelado a líderes do mundo inteiro a fim de obter apoio na sua luta contra a fome, sobretudo nos países mais pobres. Essa "obsessão" de Bono levou a incomodar os membros do grupo e quase levou o U2 ao fim em tempos passados. Porém, isso foi revertido e ele conta com o apoio deles na sua causa.
