The Smiths foi uma banda inglesa, surgida na cidade de Manchester e bastante popular na década de 1980. A sua música já recebeu diversas classificações ao longo dos anos, seja como Pós-punk, Rock Alternativo ou até mesmo o abrangente (e genérico) rótulo de Rock Inglês. O grupo

existiu formalmente entre 1982 e 1987, alcançando o sucesso no seu país em 1984. O nome é uma curiosidade: Smith é o sobrenome mais popular na Inglaterra (equivale ao Silva, Santos ou Ferreira em português). O objetivo era mostrar que a banda era f

ormada de pessoas comuns. Entre seus principais sucessos destacam-se as canções The Boy With The Thorn In His Side, How Soon Is Now, This Charming Man, Ask, Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now, Bigmouth Strikes Again, Panic e There Is a Light That Never Goes Out.
