THE CURE

Os The Cure são uma banda de rock inglesa formada em 1976 em Crawley, Inglaterra. Robert Smith é o líder da banda e único elemento constante desde a sua formação, além de se manter responsável sozinho por sua direcção musical, sendo produtor, cantor, compositor e multi-instrumentista.

Aclamados no final dos anos 1980 e princípio da década seguinte, com diversos álbuns que alcançaram grande exposição e popularidade, passaram a ser negligenciados pela imprensa na segunda metade dos anos 1990. Com a chegada do novo século, a banda foi reconhecida mundialmente como uma das mais influentes do rock alternativo moderno. Várias canções dos The Cure tornaram-se sucesso nas rádios, tais como Just Like Heaven, Close To Me, ou Friday I'm in Love, com indicações e ganhos em prémios, e o grupo havia vendido até 2004 mais de 30 milhões de cópias no mundo todo, com 1.1 milhão de vendas certificadas somente no Reino Unido, sendo uma das bandas alternativas de maior sucesso da história. Em Outubro de 2008 a revista britânica NME anuncia a atribuição do prémio 'Godlike Genius' à banda, em forma de reconhecimento pela contribuição para a música alternativa e pela sua extraordinária carreira.

Joy Division

JOY DIVISION

Joy Division foi uma banda pós-punk formada no ano de 1976, em Manchester, Inglaterra. A banda acabou em 18 de Maio de 1980 após o suicídio do vocalista e guitarrista, Ian Curtis. A banda também tinha como integrantes Bernard Sumner (guitarrista e tecladista, à época chamado Bernard Albrecht), Peter Hook (baixista e vocalista) e Stephen Morris (percursionista e baterista). Após o termino da banda, os três integrantes remanescentes formaram o New Order.

Com uma forte influência na cultura punk de 1977 misturado com conceitos artísticos, Joy Divison foi uma banda que misturava o rock underground com algumas nuances de experimentalismo e inovações eletrônicas, inspirado por bandas como o Kraftwerk.

Seu som tinha influências de The Doors, Velvet Underground, David Bowie, Sex Pistols e Iggy Pop. Era caracterizado por densas melodias, bastante marcadas pela bateria quase "militar" de Stephen Morris, e uma tendência para a depressão e a claustrofobia. As letras obscuras e extremamente poéticas de Ian Curtis se tornaram uma característica marcante do grupo, assim como seu vocal em barítono.

Ozzy Osbourne

OZZY OSBOURNE

John Michael Osbourne, conhecido como Ozzy Osbourne (Birmingham, Inglaterra, 3 de dezembro de 1948), é um músico, compositor e vocalista inglês.

Amigo de longa data do Mama Luigi, Ozzy, aos vinte anos montou sua primeira banda, o Polka Tulk, que mais tarde ganhou o nome de Earth. No repertório, blues e rock com influências das bandas Cream, Blue Cheer e Vanilla Fudge, recebe as alcunhas de "O Pai do Heavy Metal" e "Príncipe das Trevas", sendo assim idolatrado.

E em 1969, após descobrir a existência de uma banda homônima, Anthony "Tony" Iommi (guitarra), William "Bill" Ward (bateria), John "Ozzy" Osbourne (vocais) e Terence "Geezer" Butler (baixo) decidem adotar outro nome. A idéia surgiu a partir do título de uma história do escritor Dennis Wheatley (que também inspirou a composição de Butler), nascendo então o Black Sabbath.

O nome e a temática do Black Sabbath surgiu quando todos os integrantes andavam pela "cidade natal" da banda. Quando passaram em frente a um cinema no qual estava passando um filme de terror. Ozzy e Tony pensaram "As pessoas pagam para ver isso? Para sentir medo? Pode ser que dê certo" e então puseram o nome do cinema na banda e desde então compuseram músicas sobre a morte, o Diabo e coisas do gênero.

Após nove anos junto ao Black Sabbath, o oitavo álbum da banda, “Never Say Die!” (1978), veio para marcar a saída de Ozzy. Decidido a seguir carreira solo, ele forma o Blizzard of Ozz juntamente o guitarrista Randy Rhoads, o baixista Bob Daisley e o baterista Lee Kerslake, sendo que o primeiro álbum, de mesmo nome, foi lançado na Inglaterra em fita demo, no ano de 1980 e nos EUA e no resto do mundo, no ano seguinte, pelo selo Jet Records, da CBS.

O vocal personalíssimo de Ozzy somado ao talento inovador de Randy Rhoads renderam a sétima posição na parada inglesa e a vigésima primeira na norte-americana para os hits “Crazy Train” e “Mr. Crowley”. Impulsionados pelo sucesso nas vendas de seu debute, entre fevereiro e março de 1981, Ozzy e a banda voltaram ao estúdio para a gravação de seu segundo álbum, mas como a turnê do trabalho anterior estava pendente, o já intitulado “Diary of a Madman” acabou feito às pressas. O ensaio do solo de Rhoads na música “Little Dolls”, por exemplo, virou versão oficial. Além do que, nenhum dos integrantes da banda chegou a participar da mixagem final do álbum.

Para a turnê norte-americana - que acabou acontecendo somente um mês e um dia após a gravação do “Blizzard of Ozz” -, Tommy Aldridge (baterista) e Rudy Sarzo (baixo) substituíram Daisley e Lee Kersbglake. Devido a grande vendagem do álbum - que alcançou 500 mil cópias em menos de cem dias, Ozzy e Sharon decidiram estender a turnê, porém, muitos shows tiveram que ser cancelados, já que pouquíssimos ingressos foram vendidos e o dinheiro arrecadado não foi suficitente nem para pagar a banda.

Iron Maiden

IRON MAIDEN

Iron Maiden é uma banda britânica de heavy metal, formada em 1975 pelo baixista Steve Harris, ex-integrante das bandas Gypsy's Kiss e Smiler. Originária de Londres, foi uma das principais bandas do movimento musical que ficou conhecido como NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal). O nome "Iron Maiden" foi inspirado em um instrumento de tortura medieval^[2] que aparece no filme O Homem da Máscara de Ferro. Esse também era o apelido da ex-primeira ministra britânica Margaret Thatcher, que aparece nas capas dos compactos "Women in Uniform" e "Sanctuary".

Com mais de três décadas de existência, quinze álbuns de estúdio, seis álbuns ao vivo, catorze vídeos e diversos compactos, o Iron Maiden é uma das mais importantes e bem sucedidas bandas de toda a história do heavy metal, tendo vendido milhões de álbuns registrados em todo o mundo. Seu trabalho influenciou diversas bandas de rock e metal. Eles são citados como influência por bandas como Hazy Hamlet, Anthrax, Angra, Metallica, Helloween, Death, Megadeth, Dream Theater , Blind Guardian e Mystery, entre muitos outros.

Em março de 2001, a banda recebeu o prêmio Ivor Novello em reconhecimento às realizações em um parâmetro internacional como uma das mais bem-sucedidas parcerias de composição da Inglaterra. Durante a turnê americana de 2005, foi adicionada à Calçada da Fama de Hollywood.^[3] A banda também está presente nas principais listas de maiores bandas de rock de todos os tempos.

O Maiden já encabeçou diversos grandes eventos, entre eles Rock in Rio, Monsters of Rock em Donington, Ozzfest ao lado do Black Sabbath, Wacken Open Air, Gods of Metal, Lollapalooza, Download Festival e os Festivais de Reading e Leeds.

A banda têm diversas canções baseadas em lendas, livros, histórias e filmes, entre as quais The Phantom of the Opera, The Wicker Man, The Prisoner, Stranger in a Strange Land - que é um romance de ficção científica de 1961, escrito por Robert A. Heinlein, Murders In The Rue Morgue, Flight of Icarus, Where Eagles Dare, Rime of the Ancient Mariner - baseada no poema de Samuel Coleridge -, To Tame a Land - da série de ficção científica Duna, de Frank Herbert - e The Trooper - canção baseada no romance The Charge of The Light Brigade. Outros temas bastante recorrentes nas músicas da banda são ocultismo, assassinato e escuridão, por exemplo, nas músicas Murders in the Rue Morgue e Innocent Exile e nas capas dos álbuns Sanctuary, Women in Uniform, Iron Maiden e Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter.
